Concert works

I have had opportunities to compose for a wide variety of ensembles including orchestra, wind ensemble, choir, electronics, and opera. Below are examples of my work ranging from acoustic to electronic, experimental to conventional, orchestral to operatic. Scores available upon request.

Burnout

Composed in during my 2019 residency with the NYU Orchestra, a combination of my classical training and love of rock, written at the precipice of my own creative burnout.

Premiered by the NYUO1 Orchestra

March 11th, 2019 at the Frederick Loewe Theater at NYU

Conductor: Adam Glaser

Decision Fatigue for Bearthoven

At what point is a groove no longer a groove?

Recorded May 9th, 2019 at Scholes Street Studio, Brooklyn, NY

How to Tell a Scary Story

A chamber opera in three acts. Three campfire stories are told late at night. Who will tell the best story?

Premiered June 9th, 2018 by the Northwestern University Undergraduate Company of Opera Singers

Sea or Seam

A choral “setting” of Dream Within a Dream by Edgar Allen Poe. Each word of the poem is assigned a note or harmony and a set number of repetitions. The words are then sung simultaneously creating a granular texture while the repetitions play out.

Recorded March 14th, 2018 by The Crossing during their residency at Northwestern University

Leaf

For wind ensemble; an arrangement of an original theme for a character in a video game. Leaf is a woodland elf; smart, quick, and kind hearted, she will do what it takes to succeed, but never at the cost of her moral code.

Recorded May 19th, 2017 by the Northwestern University Symphonic Wind Ensemble

Undecidable

Inspired by Kurt Gödel’s “Incompleteness Theorem,” this piece is composed of small snippets from an original song of mine which uses part of Gödel’s text as lyrics. I rearranged the snippets and wrote new connecting material to compose this piece for voice, flute, guitar, and drum kit.

Premiered May 17th, 2017 by the Fonema Consort during their residency at Northwestern University

Inkastare

An orchestral piece inspired the greatest sport of all time: Kubb! The wooden batons used in this popular Swedish lawn game make a particularly delightful sound which served as the impetus for this composition.

Premiered October 22nd, 2016 by the Northwestern University Contemporary Music Ensemble

Sieve

An experimental/semi-improvisatory duet for baritone saxophone and tuba. A screen is used.

Premiered February 16th, 2016 by Michael Frasier and Brandon Quarles
